Indian villages have a rich repository of traditional knowledge and heritage; this information is made available only for its local residents. However even the minimal information available now will soon fade off as villagers migrate to urban areas for livelihood opportunities and other reasons. “Namma Ooru Website” is a tool to disseminate the village specific information and create a village identity for Indian villages.

Namma Ooru website creation was made possible by empowering town-based educational institutions involving the village youth using Information and Communication Technology tools. Mahatma Gandhi said “Regard villages as the future of India” and this thought has come alive with this initiative.
